All about Online Game - Slither.io

What is Slither.io

Slither.io is probably one of the simplest and most addictive games on the internet and mobile devices right now. Following in the footsteps of the ever-so-popular Agario, if you haven’t tried the game yet, but have heard your friends raving about it, then we’ve thrown together a beginner’s guide of everything you need to know about the game, including how to play, tips and tricks for getting ahead and where to find the best Slither.io extensions, skins and mods if you wish to add them.

Slither.io is an addictive new mobile game that combines the classic game of snake with elements from the popular Agario mobile and web browser hit. In this game you are a snake instead of a blob and the goal is become the biggest and longest snake in the game.

Slither.io's appeal lies in its simplicity: Players maneuver a brightly-colored snake around a void dotted with glowing lights. The object is to eat as many lights as possible, which causes your snake to grow longer. In the app, you move your worm friend by touching the screen, and on the desktop version, it follows your cursor.

The catch? Other worms are out to get you, and you're out to get them. If a worm crashes into you, they explode into glowing lights for you to quickly devour, but unfortunately, the reverse is also true. At first, your worm's tiny stature makes quick turns to avoid collisions easy, but as you grow bigger and wider, it becomes harder to get out of the way. Players with an Internet connection can choose to compete against AI, or against other users playing the game in real time.

Whether you're playing against a bot or a person, though, the presence of other snakes adds a layer of strategy to the game; even if you don't actively go after other players, they're probably coming for you. I discovered this within 30 seconds of downloading the game, when another player turned to block my path. I subsequently watched in horror as my shrimpy worm's life force was immediately gobbled up. A quick scan of YouTube shows that people will circle smaller players, team up against larger ones, and other warlike tactics — so basically, it's a jewel-toned, space worm version of Game of Thrones in there.

It's easy to see why Slither.io is so appealing; it's both never-ending (in theory, you could play infinitely) and goal-oriented — the leader board is updated in real time, so you can watch your username move up the ranks as you quash your competition. Or, depending on how good at the game you turn out to be, you can watch other people's usernames move up the ranks while you're stuck as a tiny worm for eternity. The latter might not sound appealing, but it's surprisingly fun.

Slither.io Ads & In App Purchases

While playing Slither.io you will see ads. Most of these are for other mobile games and all the ads we’ve seen so far are age appropriate for the rating. The ads only appear in between the games. There are video ads that will prompt you to install another game.

There are now in-app purchases in Slither.io that allow you to remove all ads. This is a one-time purchase of $3.99. You can restore this purchase if you need to on a new iPhone or iPad.

Playing Slither.io is fairly simple.

Go to the web address Slither.io on a desktop computer or download the game from the Apple or Google Play store on mobile devices.

Select a user name. Once you sign in, you will land on a black board as a tiny colored worm.

Object of the game - consume the colored dots lying around to become a longer snake, while avoiding other snakes. Unlike Agario, the size of your snake in Slither.io doesn’t give you an advantage. In fact, any snake of any size can kill you. All they have to do is get you to head butt or eat any part of them. If you do run into them, you turn into a massive line of colored dots that the other snakes can gobble up.

Movement in the game is simple. On computers you will hold down the left or right arrows to navigate around. On mobile, tap your finger once in the direction you want to move.

Slither.io Skins

You can now use Slither.io skins that change the color and look of your snake. Originally only on a computer you can now access these in the iPhone app.

On PC, you need to share on Facebook or Twitter from the main Slither.io screen to unlock these. If you want to get the Slither.io skins without actually sharing you can click to share and then cancel the share.
On iPhone or Android you choose your Slither.io skin from the main screen with no need to share to unlock the feature.

There are a lot of skins you can cycle through including flags, patterns, mascots from websites and much more.

Slither.io Cheats & Hacks

It’s easy to find websites offering Slither.io cheats that include god mode, speed boosts and much more.

If you try to use these you will see messages like the Slither.io cheat is hacking the system, but then, you’ll need to prove you are a human.

How will you do this you ask? All you need to do is sign up for some free offers and give your information to a company that will spam you and call you non stop. Given the fact that you cannot buy any powerups or virtual currency and these tools claim they can hack the system with any name you enter, it is unlikely that you will find one that works.

Don’t use any Slither.io hack or cheat that asks you to share your personal information or sign up for any service.

Slither.io Lag

If you are playing the game and run into Slither.io lag you may need to change your Internet connection. This is a game that you play online, so playing on your cellular connection may sometimes be problematic.

If you are on public WiFi it may also be a problem. Try a different connection to see if that helps. When you use this game on a network with a lot of other traffic it could also cause a slowdown.

You can now play Slither.io agains AI, which may help with some of the lag. While there are a variety of reasons including your own connection, the number of players online can impact your connection. The game’s creator tells The Wall Street Journal that he is spending $15,000 a month to keep the game online and he is working to add servers in areas that need it.

Slither.io Tips

Slither.io Tip #1: Eat And Grow

In the beginning, you just basically just want to eat as much as you can to grow your size, but steer as clear of the bigger snakes as you possibly can – don’t get too cocky!

Slither.io Tip #2: Try the Wrap Around

When you reach a certain size, you’re going to want to try to fool other snakes into running into you so you can eat up the dots they become. One way to do this is to plan a wrap-around. With the wrap around strategy, you basically find a smaller snake near you and try to encircle yourself around it so that it has no other option but to run into you. Once you’ve gotten a ring around them, just keep circling till they have to run into you.

Slither.io Tip #3: Try Dashing or Speeding

To dash on a mobile device you double tap then hold down on the screen or on the computer, dashing happens when you hold down the left-click button on the mouse. This causes your snake to dash quickly in a given direction until you let go. You do shed a bit of length in doing this but dashing can have its advantages. For example, if you are trying to use the wrap around method, it’s sometimes good to dash forward to get in front of your target. He or she may then run into you, or it will make it easier for you to circle him or her.

Slither.io Tip #4: Try Outrunning Longer Snakes

This is another way you can use dashing. Because longer snakes move slower than short ones, you will also dash faster. If you see a longer snake than yourself coming near you, you may want to dash forward and quickly turn to get in front of them and cause them to collide.

Slither.io Tip #5: When Big Snakes Go Down, Stay At The Back Of The Fight

Many times when a large snake dies in front of you a huge surge of traffic heads that direction in hopes of eating up the most colored remains. This turns into a massive bloodbath of snakes colliding into each other. When these fights happen, try to stay nearby and be one of the last guys to go for the bait. If you can be the last man standing, you’ll be able to swoop in and gobble up many of the remains of the less restrained snakes.

Slither.io Tip #6: When You’re Big, Stay On The Edges And Stick Your Head In The Sand.

The bigger you are the more vulnerable you are to crashing into others so if you’re pretty happy with your size, practice keeping your head circled inside your body to avoid crashing into others. Meanwhile, others will crash into you just because of your sheer size, providing a steady flow of dots to consume. It’s also a good idea to move to the edges of the game board instead of the center where most of the action happens. You can check your location by looking at the small round circle in the lower right-hand corner of the play screen.
Slither.io Extensions, Skins And Mods

Slither.io is brand new so there aren’t any working extensions yet, but there are some mods and skins available.

Slither.io Skins – to get a set of skins in the game, you just need to log onto the desktop version of the game and in the lower right-hand corner of the screen are options for sharing on social media. Once you share, go back to Slither.io and in the lower left-hand corner you should see the option to Change skin. Click on it and select the one you want to use!

Additional Slither.io Skins and Mods – visit this Reddit thread for information about installing mods. These allow you to connect with friends, see coordinates, change the backgrounds and add even more new skins to your snake.

The development team behind Slither.io have been working hard to make the game fun and playable for everyone. Not only are they getting started on adding game content (like offline mode and ad removal options), but they are creating tools to help individuals address lag issues.

While they admit that some server-side issues have created latency problems with the game, it's not always the game's fault. It could be wi-fi issues, old modem or router problems, interference, or some other issue on your end. There are diagnostic tools in the works to help you pinpoint what, exactly, your issue is with the gameplay.

If your game is lagging, just put it down and come back later. From my experience, the latency issue isn't always there. It can clear up at any time.

The Slither.io team is also working on an update that brings joystick mode to iOS. There are a few more content updates coming our way, but the team is tightlipped about what's to come. Hopefully, we'll get access to skins on iOS.
